The McAllen Memorial Mustangs will square off against the New Braunfels Unicorns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. McAllen Memorial is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.
McAllen Memorial is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They strolled past Harlingen South with points to spare, taking the game 35-21.

Braxton Speights produced another solid effort rushing for 248 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. He was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards. Michael Alaniz was in the mix as well, providing McAllen Memorial with two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: McAllen Memorial was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 347 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 330 rushing yards in four consecutive games.
Another reason for the win was McAllen Memorial's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Javier Aaron Izaguirre refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 3.5 sacks all by himself. He was another major factor on D, picking up 3.5 sacks, forcing one fumble, and making seven total tackles.
Meanwhile, New Braunfels blew past Nixon, posting a 49-14 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Unicorns' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 159th, while the Mustangs are ranked 578th).
McAllen Memorial better keep an eye on LEVI GOLLA. He was instrumental in New Braunfels' win, throwing for 188 yards and two TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. The dominant performance also gave GOLLA a new career-high in passer rating (164.3).
McAllen Memorial's record now sits at 9-2. As for New Braunfels, their record is now an identical 9-2.
