Basketball Recap: Avon's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Wednesday

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Avon walked away with it. They walked away with a 53-46 victory over the Nordonia Knights on Wednesday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Knights are ranked 369th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Alaina Pagan had a dynamite game for Avon, going 8-for-16 en route to 26 points and six assists. Pagan continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last five games she's played. Amelia Holbrook also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Avon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Avon's win bumped their record up to 17-6. As for Nordonia, they dropped their record down to 7-16 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road.

Coming up, Avon will challenge Hudson at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Hudson's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches. Nordonia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
