Softball Game Preview: Milford Bearcats vs. Covington Trojans

The Milford Bearcats will head out to challenge the Covington Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Milford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

Milford is headed into the contest having just posted their closest win since April 30, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Momence 3-2.

Molly Coffey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Lillie Harris was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Addison Lucht was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Meanwhile, Covington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 12-2 to Oakwood.

Covington's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Milford, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Milford hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Covington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Milford was able to grind out a solid win over Covington when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 11-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bearcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
