Football Game Preview: Brick Memorial Mustangs vs. Jackson Memorial Jaguars

Brick Memorial and Jackson Memorial are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Brick Memorial has three straight victories, Jackson Memorial has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Brick Memorial beat Southern Regional 19-14.

Jason Lajara produced another solid performance throwing for 330 yards and two touchdowns while completing 79.2% of his passes, and also rushing for 71 yards and one TD. His passing game has become a key predictor of Brick Memorial's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise.

Brick Memorial didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Mike Pappas Jr. and Nyzier Matthews. Pappas Jr. is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Jackson Memorial was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 27-21 to St. John-Vianney.

Brick Memorial's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Jackson Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Everything went Brick Memorial's way against Jackson Memorial in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as Brick Memorial made off with a 41-21 victory. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jaguars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
