Softball Game Preview: West Trojans vs. Maypearl Panthers

For the second straight game, West will face off against Maypearl. The Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Maypearl hit West with a four-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 7-5 to the Panthers, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Laynie Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Marlee Chase made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Maypearl and bumps their season record up to 14-14-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for West, their loss dropped their record down to 13-16-1.
