Softball Recap: Leesburg Takes a Loss

Leesburg lost against Tavares back in April of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Leesburg fell 5-2 to Tavares. The Yellow Jackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Rachel Chiles was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Brianna Tozer was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

Leesburg's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Tavares, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leesburg will face off against Lake Weir at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Tavares, they will take on Master's Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
