Softball Recap: Winthrop's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Medford, Winthrop was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Ipswich Tigers with a sharp 14-6 victory. That eight run margin sets a new team best for the Vikings this season.

Lucy Boncore made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Boncore was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Kylie McFarland and Guiliana Marenghi did most of the damage at the plate: McFarland went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Marenghi went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Sofia Gonzalez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Winthrop kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

With the win, Winthrop broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-6. As for Ipswich, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winthrop will face off against Danvers at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. As for Ipswich, they will take on Georgetown at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
