Softball Game Preview: Reading Blue Devils vs. Taylor Yellowjackets

For the second straight game, Reading will face off against Taylor. The Blue Devils will welcome the Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Reading is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Reading's offense. They came up short against Taylor on Tuesday, falling 7-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Blue Devils' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

For Taylor's part, Ellie Stafford was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Stafford has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

In other batting news, Anna Prosser was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Elisabeth Shirloh was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Taylor kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive games.

Taylor is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Reading, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3.
