Basketball Recap: Rylee Markwardt and Tatum Abrego Secure Win for Itasca

Itasca waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They took down the Groesbeck Goats 60-42.

Leading Itasca to victory were Tatum Abrego and Rylee Markwardt. Abrego dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds, while Markwardt shot 53% from the field to rack up 18 points. Abrego is becoming a predictor of the Wampus Cats' success: when she posts at least eight boards the team is 3-1 (and 3-4 when she doesn't). Jaelyn Marshall was another key player, putting up nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Groesbeck's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alyssa Ramirez, who went 5-for-9 on her way to 14 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Akyra Brooks, who posted 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Itasca now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Groesbeck, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Itasca wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 48-38 victory against Lake Worth on the 4th. As for Groesbeck, they have also already played their next game, a 60-14 win against Hearne on the 4th.
