Baseball Game Preview: Ligonier Valley Rams vs. Southmoreland Scotties

For the second straight game, Ligonier Valley will face off against Southmoreland. The Rams will venture away from home to take on the Scotties at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ligonier Valley has four straight victories, Southmoreland has 11 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Ligonier Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Southmoreland a 12-0 shutout on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Austin Harr made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ligonier Valley is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Harr was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ligonier Valley got a massive performance out of Noah Knupp, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave Knupp a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Duncan Foust, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.

Ligonier Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 10.6.

Ligonier Valley's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Southmoreland, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.
