Baseball Game Preview: Southwestern Wildcats vs. Fennimore Golden Eagles

The Southwestern Wildcats will face off against the Fennimore Golden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Riverdale hit Southwestern with a four-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats lost 11-1 to the Chieftains. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Fennimore entered their tilt with Iowa-Grant on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Panthers 15-3.

Ethan Sheckler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Macoy Miles, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tyson Starkey, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Fennimore always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Fennimore's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Southwestern, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
