Preview: Norfolk Panthers vs. Fremont Tigers
Norfolk is 2-7 against Fremont since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Norfolk Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Fremont Tigers at 5:45 p.m. Norfolk has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Saturday, Norfolk was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 59-53 to Elkhorn South.
Despite their loss, Norfolk saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Skylar Indra, who scored 15 points, was perhaps the best of all. Indra continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Tasha Eisenhauer was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Fremont's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gretna East.
Despite the loss, Fremont got a solid performance out of Matthea Dalton, who scored nine points along with 16 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Mcclain, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Norfolk bumped their record down to 0-4 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Fremont, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's matchup: Norfolk have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.5 threes per game. It's a different story for Fremont, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 threes per game. Given Norfolk's sizeable advantage in that area, Fremont will need to find a way to close that gap.
Norfolk beat Fremont 55-45 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Norfolk since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
