Baseball Recap: Sacred Heart Prep Comes Up Short

Sacred Heart Prep extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 9-15 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Carlmont Scots. The Gators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Scots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Sacred Heart Prep saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Schmalzle, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.

As for Carlmont, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 12th.

On Carlmont's side, Pano Koutoulas and Luke Tofigh did most of the damage at the plate: Koutoulas got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Tofigh went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave Tofigh a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jason Tofigh, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

While Sacred Heart Prep had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
