Baseball Recap: Mount Airy Triumphs

While Mount Airy's win against Alleghany wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Granite Bears won by a run and slipped past the Trojans 4-3. The Granite Bears haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Landon Gallimore made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Mount Airy is undefeated when Gallimore posts eight or more strikeouts, but 4-11 otherwise. Gallimore was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Mount Airy's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Alleghany, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mount Airy will challenge West Wilkes at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Alleghany, they will take on Elkin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans are facing the Buckin' Elks at the right time seeing as the Buckin' Elks are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
