Baseball Game Preview: Fort Atkinson Blackhawks vs. Watertown Goslings

Fort Atkinson is 2-8 against Watertown since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Blackhawks are taking a road trip to face off against the Goslings at 11:00 a.m. Fort Atkinson will be strutting in after a victory while Watertown will be coming in after a loss.

Fort Atkinson will bounce into Saturday's game after beating DeForest, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Blackhawks won by a run and slipped past the Norskies 7-6. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Blackhawks as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Oregon hit Watertown with a five-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Goslings took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. The matchup marked the Goslings' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Brady Lessner was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Cameron Kranz was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Calvin Hurtgen, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.

This is the second loss in a row for Watertown and nudges their season record down to 6-4. As for Fort Atkinson, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Fort Atkinson beat Watertown 12-9 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blackhawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
