Basketball Recap: Mitchell Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Brandon Valley

On Tuesday, Mitchell faced Brandon Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Mitchell Kernels came up short against the Brandon Valley Lynx, falling 60-34. The Kernels just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Brandon Valley was led to victory by Alyvia Padgett and Ava Kellenberger. Padgett on her way to 22 points, while Kellenberger posted 11 points in addition to six boards and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Padgett has scored at least a third of Brandon Valley's points. Amanda Lease was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Mitchell's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Brandon Valley, they pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Coming up, Mitchell will host O'Gorman at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. O'Gorman knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 17 matchups -- so hopefully Mitchell likes a good challenge. As for Brandon Valley, they are taking a road trip to take on Huron at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Brandon Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.2 points per game this season.
