Softball Recap: Palatka Drops Season-High Score on Crescent City

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Palatka). They never let the Crescent City Raiders get on the board and left with a 27-0 victory on Monday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by eight runs or more this season.

Charla Griffin looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Zophia Clark was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Hansford, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Palatka always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .725. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win was the third in a row for Palatka, bringing their record up to 10-10. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Crescent City, they dropped their record down to 8-10 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Palatka will venture away from home to square off against Peniel Baptist Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Crescent City, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 16-2 defeat against Interlachen on the 14th.
