Basketball Recap: Lamar Christian Starts Season with Victory at Home

Lamar Christian took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 77-49 victory over the Hattiesburg HomeSchool Forerunners. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Lions also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lamar Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jacob Baxter, who went 7-for-14 to rack up 17 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Jaxon Bennett was another key player, shooting 60% from the field en route to 17 points and seven steals.

Lamar Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hattiesburg HomeSchool only racked up seven.

Despite the defeat, Hattiesburg HomeSchool saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tefari Edwards posted 21 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kaydn Higdon, who scored seven points.

Hattiesburg HomeSchool's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Lamar Christian will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Meridian HomeSchool at 7:20 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hattiesburg HomeSchool, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hattiesburg HomeSchool will be up against Varsity Opponent's rather soft defense (which has allowed 61.92 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
