Football Recap: Wayne County Comes Up Short

Wayne County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 0-6. They took a 30-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Stone Tomcats. If the War Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 17-13 to the Tomcats when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Stone, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.0 points over those games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stone to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ayden Green, who rushed for 135 yards and one score. Green's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 107 rushing yards. Jayden Collins got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Wayne County will face off against rival Vancleave at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Stone is set to square off against their familiar foe Purvis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
