Softball Preview: Northeastern Eagles vs. Holmes Aces
Northeastern is 2-8 against Holmes since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Northeastern Eagles will face off against the Holmes Aces at 5:30 p.m. Northeastern has given up an average of 18.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Northeastern is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 17th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They came up short against First Flight, falling 20-0.
Meanwhile, Holmes posted their closest victory since April 17, 2024 on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Manteo, sneaking past 8-7.
Chloe Chappell was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit while striking out 15 over 6.1 innings pitched. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
Chappell wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Ward, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
