Baseball Recap: Seminole Ridge Takes a Loss

Seminole Ridge and Royal Palm Beach squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Seminole Ridge had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 5-4. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 10-0.

Seminole Ridge got a good showing from Justin Precanico, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Precanico has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Michael Riaboukha made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Luke Vento, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Seminole Ridge and nudges their season record down to 13-12. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Royal Palm Beach, the victory snapped their losing streak at nine games and leaves them with a 9-17 record.

Seminole Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Royal Palm Beach, they will take on Dwyer at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
