Providence Hall is 0-7 against Carbon since March of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Patriots will take on the Dinos at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Providence Hall has six straight wins, Carbon has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Providence Hall barely beat Juan Diego Catholic the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Patriots put the hurt on the Soaring Eagle with a sharp 12-5 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Patriots have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Taycee Metts made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. Metts was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Hailey Lenz and Baylie Julian did most of the damage at the plate: Lenz went 1-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Julian got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mariah Garcia, who got on base in three of her six plate appearances with one run.
Providence Hall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .522. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Carbon's offense. They lost 10-0 to Union on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Dinos have suffered against the Cougars since April 2, 2019.
Providence Hall's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Carbon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.
Carbon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Providence Hall has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .522. It's a different story for Carbon, though, as they've only averaged .352. Will they be able to contain Providence Hall's hitters?
Providence Hall might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Carbon in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
