Basketball Game Preview: Fairbury Jeffs vs. Falls City Tigers

Fairbury and Falls City are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Fairbury Jeffs will host the Falls City Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Falls City took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Fairbury, who comes in off a win.

Fairbury is coming into the contest on the come-up as their season has now been buoyed by two straight victories. They took down Schuyler 51-32 on Friday.

Brodie Prellwitz went supernova for Fairbury, dropping a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Prellwitz a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Jonah Parrack, who posted five points.

Meanwhile, Falls City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 23rd straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 58-45 to Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer.

Fairbury will have to keep a close watch on Paxton Armbruster and Jacoby Bangert, a pair of players who had a big impact on Falls City's prior game. Armbruster earned 13 points along with five assists and five boards, while Bangert scored 14 points and five rebounds. Armbruster has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played.

Even though they lost, Falls City was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.6.

Fairbury's win bumped their record up to 8-14. As for Falls City, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-21.

Fairbury won a match that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in February of 2024, slipping by Falls City 37-36. Will Fairbury repeat their success, or does Falls City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
