Softball Preview: Houston Hilltoppers vs. Louisville Wildcats
For the second straight game, Houston will face off against Louisville. The Hilltoppers will face off against the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: Houston has lost seven straight at home , while Louisville has lost three on the road.
Having struggled with 13 losses in a row, Houston turned things around against Louisville on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Wildcats. The Hilltoppers' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last ten games.
Ciara Griffin made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Grace Jones was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Peysley Russell was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
Louisville's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7-1. As for Houston, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 6-16.
