Basketball Recap: Lamar County's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak on the Road

After flying high against Brookstone last Saturday, Lamar County came back down to earth. The Lamar County Trojans took a 59-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Greenforest Eagles on Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Lamar County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Makayla Watts posted 29 points and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Watts has scored all season. Briana Jackson was another key player, putting up four points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Lamar County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Milica Lazarevic continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Greenforest, going 10 of 16 on her way to 31 points. The game was Lazarevic's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zariya Baugh, who had nine points.

Lamar County's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-4. As for Greenforest, they pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Lamar County has already played their next contest, a 64-7 victory against Utopian Academy for the Arts on the 14th. Greenforest has also already played their next match (against Jasper County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
