Basketball Game Preview: East St. Louis Flyers vs. McCluer Comets

The East St. Louis Flyers will head out on the road to challenge the McCluer Comets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. East St. Louis is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season.

East St. Louis took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They took down Gateway Christian 51-36.

It was another big night for Alex Johnson, who went 6 for 10 en route to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (four). Ishaia Brown was another key player, putting up six points along with nine boards and three steals.

East St. Louis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, McCluer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 19th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost to Marquette on the road by a 71-55 margin. One positive for the Comets, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

East St. Louis' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-13. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for McCluer, their loss dropped their record down to 0-18.
