Basketball Game Preview: Rock Ridge Phoenix vs. Dominion Titans

Rock Ridge and Dominion are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The two teams will face off at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

On Tuesday, Rock Ridge was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 59-53 to Loudoun Valley. The Phoenix have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Rock Ridge saw an underclassman step up: sophomore A.K Mo made all 6 shots he took from beyond the arc for 33 points along with five assists and five boards. The game was Mo's 16th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of D.K Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, Dominion was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 63-49 to Heritage. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while the Pride are ranked 52nd).

Rock Ridge now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Dominion, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.

Rock Ridge couldn't quite finish off Dominion in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 45-43. Can Rock Ridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
