Softball Preview: Wyoming Area Warriors vs. Old Forge Blue Devils

The Wyoming Area Warriors will head out to face off against the Old Forge Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Tuesday, Wyoming Area made easy work of Greater Nanticoke Area and carried off a 15-3 win. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Alexa Gasek made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Addison Gaylord was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and two RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Allison Layland, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Old Forge, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over Honesdale on Friday. The Blue Devils' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Old Forge got a massive performance out of Joselyn DeStefano, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Arnold, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

Old Forge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Old Forge's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-8. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wyoming Area, their record is now 8-5.
