Basketball Recap: Mercer Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Mercer faced off against Grundy County/Newtown-Harris on Friday. The Mercer Cardinals lost 48-28 to the Grundy County/Newtown-Harris Panthers. The Cardinals' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Grundy County/Newtown-Harris got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Leeseah Fordyce out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards. Those 13 rebounds gave Fordyce a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Audrey Coffman, who went 5 for 10 en route to 10 points and eight boards.

Mercer's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Grundy County/Newtown-Harris, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-5.

Mercer has already played their next game, a 48-28 defeat against Grundy County on the 24th. As for Grundy County/Newtown-Harris, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Gilman City at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th. Gilman City will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Grundy County/Newtown-Harris surely won't give up without a fight.
