Baseball Recap: Delta Takes a Loss

Delta extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 4-4. They came up short against the Evergreen Vikings, falling 13-6. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 12-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Lane Lopez and Wyatt Flickinger did some serious damage despite the final result: Lopez went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Flickinger went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Jadon Lohman also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

As for Evergreen, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Evergreen's side, Nolan Hudik was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Hudik has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Bryce Bolger was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Evergreen: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Chris Shrader, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Delta will be playing at home against Liberty Center at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Evergreen, they will square off against Otsego at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
