Baseball Game Preview: Estacado Matadors vs. Snyder Tigers

The Estacado Matadors will take on the Snyder Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Snyder will be up against a hot Estacado team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Matadors came out on top against Levelland by a score of 10-6 on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the third straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Snyder, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on Big Spring with a sharp 13-7 win on Tuesday. That six run margin sets a new team best for the Tigers this season.

Aimon Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Snyder is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-16 otherwise.

At the plate, Seth Cooper and Ethan Rios did most of the damage at the plate: Cooper scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Rios scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave Cooper a new career-high. Callen Green was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Snyder pushed their record up to 7-17 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Estacado, their victory bumped their record up to 11-14-1.
