Volleyball Recap: Whiting Comes Up Short

Whiting came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 3-0 to the Illiana Christian Vikings. The Oilers have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-13, 25-14.

When it comes to explaining why Whiting lost, don't look at Lyzett Lozano. Despite the final result, she had 11 digs and three aces. Lozano is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last eight games she's played dating back to last season.

Whiting's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Illiana Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Whiting will take on Washington Township in a tournament on Saturday. As for Illiana Christian, they will face off against Calumet New Tech at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
