Softball Game Preview: Camelback Spartans vs. Cesar Chavez Champions

Camelback hasn't had much luck against Cesar Chavez recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spartans will take on the Champions at 3:45 p.m. Cesar Chavez took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Camelback, who comes in off a win.

Camelback took a 18-run loss the last time they faced off against South Mountain, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Spartans narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Jaguars 15-14. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their ten-game losing streak.

Kyliana Massey was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Samay Ramos also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Camelback kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Cesar Chavez was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 14-4 to Apollo. That's two games in a row now that the Champions have lost by exactly ten runs.

Cesar Chavez saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jade Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Another was Gianna Jaquez, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Cesar Chavez's loss dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Camelback, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-15.

Camelback suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Cesar Chavez in their previous meeting back in March of 2018. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
