Softball Game Preview: Peebles Indians vs. Dawson-Bryant Hornets

The Peebles Indians will venture away from home to take on the Dawson-Bryant Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Peebles is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top against Lynchburg-Clay by a score of 7-2. The game was the first time the Indians have beaten the Mustangs on their field since April 22, 2022.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Dawson-Bryant, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over South Webster on Wednesday.

Abbie Deeds spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kasey Vanderhoof, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Mia Haynes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Dawson-Bryant has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Peebles, their victory bumped their record up to 6-14.

Peebles might still be hurting after the 9-2 loss they got from Dawson-Bryant in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
