Plainfield and Northview are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Quakers will be playing at home against the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Plainfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Plainfield is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Decatur Central just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Quakers have suffered against the Hawks since April 26, 2022.
Amelia Martin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Belle Steele stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Broyles, who went 3-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Northview waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Eels as they made off with an 8-1 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Knights have posted against the Eels since April 19, 2018.
Maggie Krause made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Krause was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Mackie Pell was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Chloe Batchelor was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs.
Northview hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clay City struck out 14 times.
Plainfield's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Northview, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Plainfield hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Northview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Plainfield beat Northview 4-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Do the Quakers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
