Softball Game Preview: Cumberland Clippers vs. St. Mary Academy-Bay View Bengals

The Cumberland Clippers will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the St. Mary Academy-Bay View Bengals at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Cumberland is coming home looking for redemption after taking a loss in their road opener. They came up short against Chariho on Tuesday, falling 13-1. The loss continues a trend for the Clippers in their meetings with the Chargers: they've now lost four in a row.

Meanwhile, St. Mary Academy-Bay View was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 11-2 to East Providence.

Hope Myers was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Myers was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Myers wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Qiana Sumner, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Cumberland came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Mary Academy-Bay View when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. Will the Clippers repeat their success, or do the Bengals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
