Baseball Recap: Rio Americano Starts Season with Win Against Casa Roble

Rio Americano gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Casa Roble Rams a 9-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Raiders have posted against the Rams since April 15, 2016.

Kyler Benton was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Benton was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Everett Filippo, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Parker Fowler was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Rio Americano always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Casa Roble only posted an OBP of .231.

Coincidentally, Rio Americano and Casa Roble will both be playing Pioneer the next time they take the field. Rio Americano will host Pioneer at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Casa Roble will host them at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
