Baseball Recap: North Newton Takes a Loss

North Newton lost against Twin Lakes back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Spartans came up short against the Indians, falling 15-1. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

North Newton got a good showing from Nick Bartrom, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Bartrom has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, North Newton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joe Bijak, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Bijak is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

North Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 10-16. As for Twin Lakes, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-9 record this season.

North Newton and Twin Lakes are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Spartans will face off against Tri-County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. North Newton's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cavaliers have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Twin Lakes, they will square off against Logansport at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
