Softball Recap: Westville Extends Road Winning Streak to Seven

Westville waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Portage Indians by a score of 5-2.

Kierstin Vargas made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Kiersten Vaughan was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Westville pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Portage, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Westville has already played their next match (against Hammond Morton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Portage, they will be playing at home against Chesterton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
