Basketball Recap: Freeport Takes a Loss

Freeport lost against Graceville back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Freeport Bulldogs fell just short of the Graceville Tigers by a score of 48-46. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 321st, while the Tigers are ranked 66th).

Despite the loss, Freeport still got an impressive performance from Jasmine Miles, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 43.5% of Freeport's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Freeport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

Graceville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sarinity Douglas out in front who put up 12 points along with six boards and five steals. Douglas is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaria Nedd, who had 11 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Freeport has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Graceville, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-0.

Freeport wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 52-42 loss against West Florida Baptist Academy on the 13th. As for Graceville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 44-41 victory against Marianna on the 12th.
