Softball Game Preview: Deering Rams vs. Cheverus Stags

Deering hasn't had much luck against Cheverus recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Rams will host the Stags at 6:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.

Deering is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Falmouth with a sharp 14-1 victory on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Navigators: they've now won five in a row.

Meanwhile, Cheverus put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against South Portland as they made off with a 16-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Stags, who have now won five matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Cheverus secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Addison DeRoche, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another was Hailey Lamontagne, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Cheverus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Portland only posted an OBP of .406.

Cheverus' victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Deering, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
