Basketball Game Preview: Blair Bears vs. Gretna East Griffins

The Blair Bears will head out to challenge the Gretna East Griffins at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Saturday, Blair lost to Seward at home by a 44-25 margin. The defeat continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Bluejays: they've now lost three in a row.

Blair got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Beau Wendt and Taytum Macholan, who each put up six points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gretna East). They breezed by Standing Bear to the tune of 67-15 on Friday. Given the Griffins' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 155th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gretna East has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.5 points over those games. As for Blair, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8.

Blair came up short against Gretna East in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 38-31. Can Blair avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
