Softball Recap: Jones Wins Going Away Against Chicago Academy

While Jones didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Chicago Academy Cougars on Friday as they made off with an 18-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Anna Black made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Black was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Jamilette Hernandez was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Julissa Galvez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Jones always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chicago Academy only posted an OBP of .333.

Jones' record is now 9-1. As for Chicago Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Jones will take on Proviso East at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.2 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. Chicago Academy will be paying especially close attention to Jones' game: after Jones faces off against Proviso East, they'll take on Chicago Academy again at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
