Softball Recap: Hollins Wins Going Away Against Lakewood

While Hollins put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Lakewood. The Royals put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 16-0 victory. Considering the Royals have won six games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Shayla Query made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Query was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paige Westerfield, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Ava Vargas was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.

The win got Hollins back to even at 8-8. As for Lakewood, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Coincidentally, Hollins and Lakewood will both be playing Boca Ciega the next time they take the field. The Spartans will head out to face the Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Royals will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
