Basketball Recap: Charlevoix Rayders vs. East Jordan Red Devils
After flying high against Boyne City last Friday, Charlevoix came back down to earth. The Charlevoix Rayders took a 57-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Jordan Red Devils on Monday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Rayders came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while the Red Devils are ranked 249th).
Leading East Jordan to victory were Ellis Malpass and Korbyn Russell. Malpass posted 12 points and eight boards, while Russell scored nine points. What's more, Russell also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Brendan Aenis was another key player, putting up seven points and five rebounds.
Charlevoix's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for East Jordan, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 15-3.
Coming up, Charlevoix will square off against Elk Rapids at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. East Jordan has already played their next match (against Inland Lakes), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
