Baseball Recap: Queen's Grant Drops Highest Score of Season Against Jackson Day

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Queen's Grant). They put the hurt on the Jackson Day Mariners with a sharp 23-2 win on Monday. With that victory, the Stallions brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.

Jonah Weiss made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Queen's Grant: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two hits, but 2-11 otherwise. Weiss was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ezequiel Abreu was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Queen's Grant's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 0-10 when he doesn't). Tyrell Byrd was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Queen's Grant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.8.

Queen's Grant's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-11. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Jackson Day, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.

As of now, neither Queen's Grant nor the Mariners have any future games scheduled.
