Baseball Recap: Palisades Comes Up Short

After flying high against Ballantyne Ridge last Friday, Palisades came back down to earth. The Pumas came up short against the Hopewell Titans on Wednesday, falling 21-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pumas of the 5-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Addison Rowland and Max Wearing did some serious damage despite the final result: Rowland got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Wearing went 1-for-3 with one home run. Rowland is becoming a predictor of Palisades' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 6-8 when he doesn't).

Palisades' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-9. As for Hopewell, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palisades will venture away from home to challenge Butler at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Pumas are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Hopewell, they are taking a road trip to face off against West Mecklenburg at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Titans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 10.6 runs per game this season.
