Soccer Game Preview: Portage Central vs. Troy

The Portage Central Mustangs will take on the Troy Colts at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Portage Central's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Kalamazoo Central 7-0. The victory continues a trend for Portage Central in their matchups with Kalamazoo Central: they've now won eight in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Troy). They put the hurt on Stoney Creek with a sharp 4-0 win on Tuesday. Given Troy's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan soccer rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Stoney Creek are ranked 109th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Portage Central pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those five games. As for Troy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1-2.
