Softball Recap: Southside Takes a Loss

Southside dropped their record down to 8-8-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Jones Trojans by a score of 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Dana Ransom was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily McLean, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

As for Jones, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-8. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On Jones' side, Payten Plyler made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Plyler has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Riley Murphy, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run. Another player making a difference was Makenzie Maines, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Southside didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 15-2 victory against Lejeune on the 28th. As for Jones, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 4-2 loss against Liberty Christian Academy on the 24th.
