Baseball Recap: Florida Christian Takes a Loss

Florida Christian entered their contest against Belen Jesuit on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Florida Christian Patriots took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Belen Jesuit Wolverines. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Patriots of the 3-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Jacob Lopez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, Florida Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Torres, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. That run marked the first that Torres scored this season. Another was Sebastian Rodriguez, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Florida Christian and nudges their season record down to 6-4. As for Belen Jesuit, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-6.

Florida Christian wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 4-2 victory against Coral Reef on the 8th. As for Belen Jesuit, they will face off against Miami Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
